Researchers have developed AI-Descartes, a framework for automated scientific discovery that combines data and knowledge to generate and evaluate symbolic models.

The framework follows four rules inspired by René Descartes and can assist both theoreticians and experimental scientists in discovering new natural or artificial phenomena. It uses machine learning to create models consistent with data, which are then ranked by various criteria, including logical derivability, simplicity, accuracy, novelty, and generality, enabling scientists to discover and explain complex phenomena.
